01 — THE CHALLENGE

Candidates also choose by what they see

IEEIA Faculty, Iasi · 2,536 sqm · 2025

A technical faculty is hard to present in words. The real difference between two options is not in the brochure — it is in the laboratory: what equipment exists, what the rooms look like, where the student will actually work over the coming years.

An open day solves this for those able to attend on a given day at a given hour. For a pupil from another county comparing three faculties, it solves nothing.

  • Laboratories with equipment that cannot be moved or switched off
  • Numerous spaces with very different functions
  • A young audience that searches from a phone
  • An admissions window compressed into a few weeks
METHOD Navigable virtual tour, walked point by point
02 — WHAT WE DID

Scanned without touching a single instrument

Scanning was done from successive positions, with the device on a tripod. Nothing was moved, disconnected or switched off: the equipment appears in the tour exactly as it stands in the laboratory.

Both the representative spaces — the ones that make the first impression — and the laboratories, which are the actual argument, were included. Both matter, for different reasons.

OUTCOME The virtual tour used as admissions material, accessible from a phone
03 — THE OUTCOME

An open day, every day

The tour is shared as a link: on the admissions page, in materials sent to high schools, on social media. A pupil from another county opens it on a phone, at a convenient hour, and sees the laboratories without making the trip.

At Digital Twin Awards the project won the Education category by public vote — the third consecutive year an ELY BASS project has been awarded.

  • Admissions material that works all year round
  • Laboratories become a visible argument, not a promise
  • The same resource used both in presentations and on the website
Frequently asked

Virtual tours for schools, faculties and institutions

Why would a faculty need a virtual tour?

Because candidates also choose by what they see. A brochure shows the building but not the laboratory they will actually work in. A virtual tour opens the real spaces to anyone, at any time, without needing an open day or a scheduled visit.

Can laboratories with sensitive equipment be scanned?

Yes. Scanning is contactless: the device sits on a tripod and measures with light, without touching or moving the equipment. Nothing is mounted on walls or instruments and no installation needs to be switched off.

Can the virtual tour be embedded on the institution's website?

Yes. The tour has its own link, which can be embedded in the institution's page, shared on social media or used in admissions materials. It opens straight from a browser, including on mobile, with no app and no account.

What happens to the tour once the hosting contract ends?

Cloud hosting covers the period stated in the offer. On expiry it can be extended for a fee, or the project is archived free of charge with reactivation on request. Delivered files remain the institution's property permanently.

Do you have spaces more people should see?

A faculty, a high school, a training centre, a public institution — if the space is the argument, show it.
