A community larger than the room
St. Nicholas Roman-Catholic Parish, Bacau · 2,700 sqm · 2024A parish ensemble is visited by far more people than those who physically get there: parishioners who moved abroad, families preparing an event, people looking the place up before their first visit. Photographs do not answer their real question — what is it actually like inside.
A place of worship also has a schedule. You cannot block the space for a whole day, and the equipment may not touch or move anything.

Two technologies, one ensemble
The interior was scanned from successive positions, in slots agreed with the parish, between services. The exterior was photographed by drone and reconstructed through photogrammetry into a 3D mesh you can rotate from any angle.
They are two different things answering different questions: the tour walks you through the building, the drone model shows you the building whole, from outside.
A link that gets passed on
The result is shared like any link: on the website, on Facebook, in a message. It opens in a browser, on a phone, with no account and no app — essential for an audience where not everyone installs applications.
At Digital Twin Awards, the global competition for Matterport tours, the project won Best virtual tour by public vote.

Virtual tours for places of worship and institutions
Can a virtual tour be made in a church without interrupting services?
Yes. Scanning takes place in time slots agreed with the parish, usually between services. The equipment stands on a tripod, moves from position to position and requires nothing to be mounted on walls or church furniture.
What is the difference between the indoor virtual tour and the drone 3D model?
The indoor virtual tour is walked point by point, as if you were moving through the building, and renders the interior. The drone 3D model is an exterior mesh of the construction that you rotate and view from any angle, but it has no interior. Together they describe the complete ensemble.
Who can view the virtual tour, and on what devices?
Anyone with the link, straight from a browser — phone, tablet or computer. No app is installed and no account is needed. The link can sit on the parish website, on Facebook, or be sent in a message.
How long does the tour stay online?
The tour is cloud-hosted for the period agreed in the offer. On expiry, hosting can be extended for a fee or the project is archived free of charge, with reactivation on request. Delivered files remain the beneficiary's property permanently.
